LATEST NEWS |
Friends of Eckington School (FOES) was first set up in circa 1983 – apparently with some resistance from the then headmaster who thought that parents would take over the school! The first Chairman of FOES was Geoff Ranstead, who still lives in the village. FOES is now a registered Charity (Reg No 1086382) and it's objective is: “To advance the education of pupils in the school in particular by: developing effective relationships between the staff parents and others associated with the school; and by engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils.” FOES has an enviable record of fundraising – primarily through its annual Auction of Promises, but also through other events including bingo, bonfire pancakes and the Eckington Music Festival. The committe changes on a frequent basis as parents join and leave the school or after giving a few years service have earned a well deserved break in their final year or so at Eckington First School. The new chair of FOES is Matt Tebbatt who has been in the post since September 2011. After joining 12 months earlier, Matt stepped up to the challenge and hopes to build on the fantastic work done by Tim Adkins. No pressure then!!! Our Secretary is Non Butler has a daughter in reception class and only joined the team this year and has thrown herself into the deepend. Our Treasurer is Shelley Davey also joined in september 2011 and went straight into the post. Shelley moved into the village in 2011 and has a son in reception class The other members of the committee are - Nat Ambrose has been waiting at the school gate for a few years having seen her eldest daughter and her son through their early school years in Eckington. Her youngest daughter is now in year 2. Jane Evans joined FOES in Sept 09 and can be seen managing our admin at the auction - a key role to make sure we know what's going on and how much we are raising. Jane has a son in year 2 and a daughter in reception class. Phily White also joined in Sept 09 and has taken on the challenge of Poetry day along with looking after our VIP's at the Music Festival. Philly has a son in school and also has a daughter who will no doubt be joining him soon. Sara Bennett has a daughter in year 3 and is always up for dressing up to entertain us all. Sometimes known as Bingo Bernard, she is the highlight of the school bingo night. Her youngest daughter will be joining the school very soon. Lisa Wallace joined 12 months ago after always being a helping hand at all the major FOES events. Her son is in year 4 and a daugter in year 2. Kerry Kirtland is always there at the events to help lend a hand. Her Son is in year 5 and will soon be moving on to middle school. Our newest recruits are - Nick Doyle, Jenny Weatherup, Jacqui McMillan who all joined the team in 2011. Nick moved into the village in 2011 and has a son and daughter at the school. Jenny is a born and bred village girl and has a daughter in reception class. Jacqui is the very latest member to join. We all look forward to working together.
